Dr. Farnum was selected as the next Lloyd and Sandra Nix Professor for Auburn University! This endowed professorship cycles every three years between the College of Science and Mathematics and the College of Liberal Arts. Dr. Farnum is deeply grateful for being selected and honored to carry the legacy of Lloyd and Sandra Nix.

ACS National Meeting – San Diego
Maksuda Parvin and Smriti Somai traveled to San Diego to attend the Spring 2025 National Meeting of the ACS. Both delivered oral presentations on their latest research.
EAWG Local Research Symposium 2025
The 2nd annual Local Section Research Symposium for the East Alabama West Georgia local section of the ACS was held in Columbus, GA. This year’s event was organized by Columbus State University faculty members Jonathan Meyers and Monica Frazier. This event continues to be a great resource for sharing research with our local community of chemists. This year we expanded to a judged competition for oral and poster presentations. We are proud that Maksuda and Musharraf won 1st and 2nd place for their oral presentations. Congrats to them both!

New Publication – Nickel(II/0) Chemistry for RFBs
Our latest work on two-electron redox chemistry with nickel complexes was published in Chemical Communications. https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlelanding/2025/cc/d4cc06547f
This work uses Ni(II/0) redox couples associated with nickel bis(diphosphine) complexes to show that we can easily change the redox cycle from a sequential one-electron redox cycle to a concerted two-electron redox cycle with the appropriate choice of diphosphine ligand and available anions in the electrolyte. Overall, a concerted two-electron redox cycle is shown to be more stable and occur at a more negative redox potential when the molecule is used as an anolyte (negolyte) in an RFB. We are very excited for the future directions of this work.
