Another great week of teaching solar energy conversion and storage to high school students at Auburn’s Summer Science Institute. Students tested the photovoltaic properties of amorphous silicon solar cells and then built Cu/Zn batteries to store their solar energy. Batteries were then discharged to power an LED. This year, we got the disco ball to light up through multiple batteries! Check out the video below.
Congrats to Alex Bredar who received a fellowship through the Graduate Research Scholars Program provided by Alabama EPSCoR! This fellowship will further allow us to investigate perovskite and spinel electrocatalysis.
We celebrated the end of the semester and beginning of summer with bowling night. Looking forward to a productive summer of research!
Byron gave a seminar to the department on the progress of our research program so far. His seminar, “Two Is Better Than One: Investigations of Ternary Metal Oxides for Energy Conversion Applications,” was well received. We’re excited for the next 3 years toward tenure!
